"I Can Smile Without Having to Worry" | Ava's Testimonial | Marks Orthodontics

Ava, a high school sophomore from Whitehall, shares how Marks Orthodontics transformed her smile — and her confidence — from two crooked front teeth to a full, beautiful smile she no longer has to hide.

Video Transcript

Ava: I'm Ava Gardner. I go to Whitehall High School. I play softball and I love math. I'm about to be a sophomore.

My mom brought me here because my cousin had recommended this place.

I started off with two crooked teeth in the front — they were crisscrossed. So we put braces on my four front teeth, then I got them off in fifth grade. Then in seventh grade I got a full set of braces, and now I'm getting them off soon.

If I had to describe Marks Orthodontics in one word, I would probably say... inclusive. Dr. Marks is always smiling and kind — they all are. They always start conversations with you, ask about your day, and make sure you feel like you belong.

I started off with really bad teeth and I was really insecure and embarrassed. And now I feel like I can smile without having to worry.

Common Questions

What is Phase 1 or early orthodontic treatment, and does my child need it?
Phase 1 orthodontic treatment (also called pre-orthodontics) involves placing partial braces on younger children — often targeting just the front teeth — to correct significant crowding or alignment issues before all permanent teeth come in. Like Ava's experience, early intervention can prevent more complex problems later. Dr. Marks offers free consultations to help families understand the ideal timing for their child's treatment.
Can kids get braces in elementary school?
Yes! In some cases, early orthodontic treatment starting as young as 4th or 5th grade can be highly beneficial. If a child has significant crowding, crossbites, or other alignment issues, Dr. Marks may recommend a Phase 1 approach — like Ava received — followed by comprehensive treatment in their teen years when all permanent teeth have erupted.
Will braces help my child's confidence?
Absolutely. Many patients at Marks Orthodontics, like Ava, come in feeling insecure or embarrassed about their teeth and leave their treatment smiling freely and confidently. Straightening teeth doesn't just improve oral health — it has a meaningful impact on a young person's self-esteem and quality of life.
How did patients find out about Marks Orthodontics?
Many of our patients come through word-of-mouth referrals from family and friends — just like Ava, whose cousin recommended the practice to her family. We take that trust seriously, which is why Dr. Marks and her team are committed to making every patient feel welcome, seen, and cared for from day one.
